01
Licensed for All Safety Work

Electrical safety work done by unlicensed contractors often fails inspection and can void your homeowner's insurance. Every safety inspection, AFCI install, and surge protector we install is done by a CA-licensed electrician with full documentation.

02
Written Reports Provided

Our safety inspections come with a written report of every finding — what's safe, what needs attention, and what's code-required. Accepted by real estate agents, insurance companies, and city inspectors.

03
We Know OC Code Requirements

California electrical code requirements for smoke detectors, AFCI breakers, and GFCI locations are specific and updated regularly. We stay current so your home meets today's code — not 1985's code.

04
Honest Assessment, No Upsells

We tell you what actually needs attention and what can wait. We don't invent problems to sell you work. If your panel is safe and functional, we'll tell you that — and our written report will say so too.

05
Same-Day Safety Upgrades

Surge protector, AFCI breakers, GFCI upgrades, and smoke detector installations can all be done same-day. If your insurance deadline is tight or your home sale is closing soon, we move quickly.

Common Questions

Electrical Safety
Questions Answered

Real questions OC homeowners ask about electrical safety inspections and protection upgrades.

What does a whole-house surge protector actually protect?

A whole-house surge protector installed at your panel protects every device connected to your home's electrical system — TVs, refrigerators, HVAC systems, EV chargers, smart panels, computers, and every outlet. A single lightning strike or utility surge can damage thousands of dollars of electronics. The protector clamps the surge before it reaches your devices.

What is an AFCI breaker and do I need one?

AFCI (arc-fault circuit interrupter) breakers detect dangerous electrical arcing — a leading cause of home electrical fires. California code requires them in bedrooms and living areas of homes built or renovated after specific dates. Older homes without them are at higher fire risk. We install them per current code requirements.

Is a Federal Pacific panel really dangerous?

Yes. Federal Pacific Stab-Lok breakers have a documented failure rate — the breakers don't trip under overload conditions, meaning faults that should trip the breaker instead overheat wires and start fires. Insurance companies increasingly refuse to cover homes with these panels. We recommend replacement and can do it with full permits.

My insurance company is requiring an electrical inspection — what do I do?

Call us. We perform electrical inspections that satisfy insurance company requirements and provide a written report with photos. If your insurer requires specific upgrades (GFCI, AFCI, panel replacement), we can complete them in the same visit and provide documentation of the work done.

How many smoke detectors does my home need?

California requires hardwired smoke detectors in every bedroom, outside each sleeping area, and on every floor including basements. Carbon monoxide detectors are required on every floor and within 15 feet of sleeping areas. We audit your current coverage and install any missing detectors to current code.

What is a transfer switch and why do I need one for my generator?

A transfer switch disconnects your home from the utility grid before connecting to your generator — preventing dangerous backfeeding that can electrocute utility workers and damage your generator. Connecting a generator without a transfer switch is illegal in California and voids most generator warranties. We install both manual and automatic transfer switches.

My home has aluminum wiring — is that a problem?

Aluminum wiring itself isn't the problem — the connections are. Aluminum expands and contracts differently than copper, causing connections to loosen over time. Loose connections arc and start fires. We remediate aluminum wiring connections using COPALUM crimps or AlumiConn connectors — the only two methods approved by the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

What's the difference between a safety inspection and a permit inspection?

A safety inspection is a voluntary assessment of your home's electrical condition — we check everything and give you a report. A permit inspection is a mandatory city inspection after we complete permitted work (panel replacement, new circuits, etc.). We handle both — the permit inspection is included as part of any permitted job we do.
